Hot weather
A heatwave can have consequences for both you and for nature. We may also adjust your services. For example, your driving licence or travel document may be delivered later, We may also close the Town Hall earlier in the day.
What can you do yourself
Visit the website of Fryslân Veilig (opens in new tab) or RIVM (opens in new tab) for tips on how to stay cool and healthy during hot weather.
What we do
- We keep an eye on the situation and follow the recommendations of RIVM and the Friesland Security region.
- We pay extra attention to vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and people with poor health.
- We collaborate with various organisations, including GGD Fryslân (municipal health services), the Friesland Fire Brigade, the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management, the Friesland Water Board and the Friesland Security Region.
- We keep an eye on bridges.
- We grit the roads with salt where the asphalt gets sticky. This cools the asphalt down.
- For official bathing waters, we use the water board’s notifications about blue-green algae.
- If many fish are dying, we take action by installing oxygen pumps.
Reporting botulism
If you find large numbers of dead fish, birds or ducks in 1 location, please contact us.
Adjusted services
We may adjust our services in the event of a heatwave. You can find up-to-date opening hours on the Contact page.
