ESF subsidy
The City of Leeuwarden has received European subsidy money (ESF subsidy) to help people find work. This concerns people with a vulnerable position on the labour market.
European subsidy to help people find work
This funding enables the local authority to guide a larger number of people towards employment. More reintegration programs can also be offered. The subsidy specifically targets:
- People receiving benefits
- Young people
- People not eligible for benefits
- People with a long-term illness, condition or disability
- Status holders
- Refugees with residence status
The City of Leeuwarden wants everyone to have the opportunity to find work. It makes no difference where you come from or who you are. This is not only important for the people concerned. It also contributes to a stronger and resilient community. The City of Leeuwarden is the central local authority for the labour market region of Friesland. Leeuwarden applied for the ESF subsidy under the name Samen Aan De Slag (working together). The City of Leeuwarden has done this on behalf of a large number of local authorities. This began on 3 October 2022.

The European Commission has made a large recovery package available in response to the Covid-19 pandemic,. To help people find work, the City of Leeuwarden uses the European Union’s ‘ESF REACT-EU’ subsidy scheme. The grant is intended to help people find work. This concerns:
- Young people
- People receiving benefits
- People with a long-term illness, condition or disability
- Refugees with residence status
- People not eligible for benefits
The City of Leeuwarden is the central local authority for labour market region Friesland. The City has applied for the European subsidy in cooperation with the other local authorities.
