Grant for making your own home more sustainable Leeuwarden Oost
Do you live in a poorly insulated home with a low WOZ value? If so, you may be eligible for a grant to insulate your windows, walls, roof and floor. This scheme applies to the districts Bilgaard, Vrijheidswijk, Oud-Oost and Heechterp-Schieringen.

Amount of the grant
You can obtain a grant of up to €12,000. Are you applying for multiple grants and that add up to more than what you paid? If so, you will only be refunded the amount you paid. It is not based on a percentage, but the actual cost. The local authority pays the bill to the supplier. Once you have applied for the grant, you will receive confirmation that we have received it. We will get back to you within eight weeks.
What can you get a grant for?
- facade insulation
- cavity wall insulation
- roof or attic insulation
- floor or ground insulation
- HR++ glass/triple glass, insulated frame panel or an insulated door and door frame. No grants are available for new (plastic) window frames. If you are buying new glass and new window frames, we will need an offer in which the costs for only the glass are stated separately.
- energy-efficient ventilation measure (only in combination with another measure)
For this grant, you need an insulation plan. You can obtain a grant for the first 2 insulation measures listed in this insulation plan. If funds remain after you have implemented the first 2 measures, you can also apply for a grant for other insulation measures from the insulation plan. Additional conditions for roof insulation and cavity wall insulation
There are additional conditions for external roof insulation and cavity wall insulation. This is because we want to protect animals, such as bats, that may be nesting in your home during the insulation work. An eDNA analysis must be carried out before cavity wall insulation can be installed in ground-level homes. An environmental and planning permit is required for installing cavity wall insulation and roof insulation in non-ground-level homes, such as a duplex home, apartment complexes and apartment buildings.

Grant conditions
- You live in 1 of the following districts:
- Bilgaard: your postcode starts with 8918.
- Oud-Oost: your postcode starts with 8921 or 8922.
- Vrijheidswijk: your postcode starts with 8923.
- Heechterp and Schieringen: your postcode starts with 8924.
- The WOZ value of your own home is € 170,000 or lower (reference date 1-1-2020).
Check the WOZ value of your property on the WOZ-waardeloket website. - If the property is in a row of at least 3 houses, the WOZ value can sometimes be up to €190,000 on reference date 1-1-2020. At least half the houses in the row must have WOZ value of less than € 170,000 (as of 1-1-2020). Houses in the row must also apply for and receive this grant. In that case, contact the local authority about the rules.
- Your property’s energy label is C/D/E/F or G. Or your property has no energy label. Does your property have energy label A or B? If so, you are not eligible for this grant. Check the energy label on the EP-online website.
- You must have a company implement the measures (no DIY). You do not work at this company yourself and/or you are not an owner or co-owner of this company.
- You can pick your own company. This does not have to be a company listed on the Leeuwarden Helpt Verduurzamen.
- Implement at least 2 measures from the mandatory insulation plan. These should be the 2 measures mentioned first. If funds remain after you have implemented the first 2 measures, you can also apply for a grant for other insulation measures from the insulation plan.
- This grant or the Leeuwarden East sustainability pilot grant has not been used before for this property. This applies even if a previous occupant has already used this grant.
- You are the home owner and occupant. If you are a private landlord, there is a Grant for making rental housing more sustainable Leeuwarden Oost.
- It must concern a ground-level home. This type of home is built directly on the ground and usually has its own garden or outdoor space. It cannot be an apartment or upstairs flat.
- Where the property concerns a listed building, you must hand in the required environmental permit for implementing this measure or these measures to the listed building.
- Take pictures while implementing the measures and afterwards. These are necessary for drawing up a new energy label.
Home insulation after 1 January 2024
If you insulated your home after 1 January 2024, all or some of the costs may be reimbursed to you. You need an insulation plan for this. Go to the Leeuwarden helpt verduurzamen (Leeuwarden helps improve sustainability) website. In the insulation plan, you describe what the situation was like before you began insulating your home.

More grants are available for insulating homes. You may be able to take advantage of several grants. You may add them together.
Home insulation grant scheme
The maximum grant amount is €2,150. One condition is that the property has a WOZ value of €350,000 or lower with reference date 1-1-2022. The property must have an energy label D/E/F/G or similar. In that case, the home has 2 poorly insulated building parts. Building parts include the windows, the floor or ground, the walls or roof, attic, loft. Grant scheme for energy-saving housing measures
The maximum grant amount is €2,500. One condition is that the property has a WOZ value of €268,000 or lower with reference date 1-1-2022. Your taxable family income must be less than €48,625 per year. The property must have an energy label D/E/F/G or similar. In that case, the home has 2 poorly insulated building parts. What should you do once the insulation measures have been implemented?
Upon receiving the grant, you will receive a form to reclaim costs. Fill in the form, send it and attach the invoices.
