Compulsory education and basic qualification requirement
Children between the ages of 5 and 16 are subject to compulsory education. Children between the ages of 16 and 18 are subject to a basic qualification requirement. Under some circumstances, children may be exempted (granted leave) from compulsory education. This is always by way of an exception. For example, for a funeral, wedding or moving house. It could be that a child is unable to go to school for physical or psychological reasons. In that case, parents or carers can apply to the school attendance officer for an exemption.
