Quick to:

Why are we doing this?

The asphalt is in a poor state and must be replaced. When we carry out major maintenance, we always look at ways to make streets safer and more orderly. Conversations with local residents and Plaatselijk Belang have taught us that this is necessary.

What will change

30 km/h zone

Felixwei is a 30 km/h zone, but this is currently not very clear. That is why we will be making some changes:

  • entrance/exit constructions at Pim Mulierstraat and Hellasstrjitte;
  • a smaller roadway, so cars will slow down;
  • a raised plateau at Perzenstrjitte;

a school zone at CBS De Sprankel.

The school environment is currently busy and not orderly. Many parents drive into the street to find a place to park. This results in unsafe situations for cyclists and children. For that reason:

  • Two real bumps will be installed at both ends of the school zone.
  • Red asphalt will be laid for better recognition.
  • Ten parking spaces across from house numbers 10 to 24 will be removed.
  • Clear pedestrian crossings will be introduced.
  • We will put up eye-catching coloured poles to increase the visibility of the school zone.

Parked car counts show that getting rid of 10 parking spaces should not cause any traffic problems. Fewer parking spaces means less traffic searching for parking and therefore more safety.

Trees

The trees will stay. They are in good health.

Pavements and driveways

  • All pavements will be repaved and widened to 1.8 meters where necessary.
  • Thick, solid tiles will be used for driveways.

Planning

Construction work will start around the summer of 2026 and will be done by late 2026. The planning was delayed because additional funds were needed. This has now been taken care of.

  • June/July 2026: residents will receive information about the construction work and the exact schedule.
  • We will draw up the definitive schedule together with the contractor.
  • Residents will be informed of this.

Sharing your thoughts and taking part in the conversation

The design has been discussed with the Stiens Traffic Committee. Residents had the opportunity to ask questions during a walk-in evening. No comments were made that necessitated changes to the design.
