Asbestos

Give at least 5 days’ notice via the environment counter. You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of this report, which you will hand in at the Milieustraat (recycling centre).

Asbestos-like material looks very similar to asbestos, you cannot tell this difference. Do you have asbestos-like material and want to take it away to the Milieustraat? Let us know online (you will need DigiD). Also send proof that the material does not contain asbestos.

Are you unwilling or unable to apply online?

Download and complete the Acceptance form for asbestos-like material. Also send proof that the material does not contain asbestos. Send it to the City of Leeuwarden. You can also hand it in at the Town Hall or email it to vergunningen@leeuwarden.nl.

You may only remove asbestos yourself in your own home, garden and shed if:

• It consists of screwed-down whole sheets, in which the asbestos fibres are trapped.
• The plate area is a maximum of 35 m2.
• It is a non -glued asbestos-containing floor covering.
• The items are asbestos-containing floor tiles.
• The items are not roof tiles.

In all cases other than those mentioned above, you must have asbestos removed by a certified asbestos removal company.

Deliver it within 2 weeks to the Milieustraat.

• Store it in a locked room so that others cannot come into contact with the asbestos.
• Keep it separate from all other waste.

• Reporting the presence of asbestos is free of charge.
• You will be charged a fee for the asbestos report if one is required.
