Registration Non-Residents
Are you coming to the Netherlands for work and are you staying less than four months? Register as a ‘non-resident’ within five days of entering the Netherlands. You will need to make an appointment for this. We cannot help you without an appointment. The dates you see when you schedule your appointment online are the only dates available. We therefore ask you not to contact us by phone for an appointment at another time.
What do you need to take with you to the Town Hall?
You visit in person with:
- A valid and original proof of identity.
- Proof of your address abroad. A bank statement, for example.
- The QR code you receive after completing the online registration form RNI.
If you are under the age of 16, bring the following with you:
- A valid and original proof of identity.
- An original birth certificate drawn up in Dutch, English, French or German.
- A translation is required if the certificate is in a different language. It may also be necessary to have the document authenticated.
- At least one parent has to be present at the registration of the minor.
Do you want to register your partner and/or children?
They too will need to be present at the appointment.
Why do I need to register?
Registering grants you a citizen service number (BSN, Burgerservicenummer). You need this number if you want to work in the Netherlands. Or have other dealings with the Dutch government.
What is registered?
- Name
- Births

- Citizen service number
Changing data abroad
Are you living abroad and moving to another address abroad? Or do you have a new phone number or e-mail address? If so, submit your change of address or new contact details via adreswijziging buitenland. You will need DigiD.
It is important that your address and contact details are correct. That way, you can be sure you won’t miss any important mail from the government or payments.
You will find more information on the website Nederland Wereldwijd.
Data changes in the Netherlands
Are you living in the Netherlands temporarily and moving to another address in the Netherlands? Or do you have a new phone number or e-mail address? If so, submit your change of address or new contact details via MyRNI. You will need DigiD. You can also report that you no longer live in the Netherlands or that you are temporarily back.
