Events calendar
Want to know about this year’s events in the City of Leeuwarden? You will find them in the Events Calendar.
Want to place your event on the calendar?
Submit your event online using the form Application for events calendar entry. Having your event listed on the calendar is free of charge.
Report your event
Registration must be made between January 1 and September 1 in the year before the event is scheduled. And is mandatory for events with more than 2,000 visitors. You must also submit a request for events at scarce locations (Oldehoofsterkerkhof, Wilhelminaplein and Prinsentuin). The applications are assessed according to the ‘Assessment framework for requests for placement on the Event Calendar’ via Overheid.nl.
Establishing Event Calendar
The Mayor establishes the Event Calendar no later than December in the year before the event takes place. You will receive an email to confirm whether your event has been posted. Applicants for events that cannot be placed will be contacted by telephone. We will check whether another location or date is possible. If this is not possible, the event cannot be posted. An event that is placed on the Event Calendar is eligible for a scarce event permit.
Scarce event locations in Leeuwarden
These are the Oldehoofsterkerkhof, Wilhelminaplein and the Prinsentuin. At the Oldehoofsterkerkhof and Wilhelminaplein there is more demand for events with a heavy noise exemption, making these locations scarce.
12 day arrangement
Given the noise levels, the number of events, the locations and the days on which an event takes place, we apply a 12-day arrangement per event location (except for the Prinsentuin). A noise exemption can be granted per location for a maximum of 12 days per year if an event has a noise level of 75 dB(A) or more or takes place in whole or in part after 7:00 pm or on a Sunday. More information about these locations can be found on our website under event location profiles.
20 day arrangement
Up to 20 one-day events per year are possible in the Prinsentuin with a noise level of up to 75 dBa. No heavy noise exemptions are possible here. For more information about rules regarding noise and measuring noise standards, we refer to the ‘Policy Rule for Noise Events in the Open Air 2022, which can be found on Overheid.nl.
You will find them in the Events Calendar
You can read more information about the procedure and submission requirements of the application and any additional exemptions in the Placement Event Calendar folder.
