UN Global Compact Network

Members of the UN Global Compact Network inspire each other and work together to make the world more sustainable. We are the only Dutch city to have joined the UN Global Compact.

This demonstrates our serious commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility. That puts Leeuwarden at the forefront of sustainability in the Netherlands.

As a member of this network, we can gain inspiration and learn from other cities and organisations that are also committed to sustainability. This allows us to further improve and expand our own sustainability efforts.

Leeuwarden helped for a few years to develop the Water Campus, a centre for water knowledge and innovation. This was part of the Cities Programme and has since ended. Leeuwarden was a model city for other cities because it was very innovative in Water Technology. About ‘SDG 6: Improving Water Quality’
