Quick to:

When can you purchase your leasehold land

As a leaseholder, you can buy the ‘bare ownership’ of your leasehold land(s) in almost all cases. You then become the owner of the land and do not have to pay an annual amount of money (the ground lease).

Is your land eligible for purchase?

If so, you will receive an offer letter from the local authority within 2 weeks. This letter states:

  • What you have to pay.
  • The conditions under which you can purchase your leasehold plot.
  • How the redemption procedure goes.

When can you not purchase your leasehold land?

If you are a leaseholder in an apartment complex. In this case, you do not have an independent leasehold right but an undivided share in the leasehold right (divided into flat rights). Leaseholders of an apartment complex can only buy the ‘bare ownership’ if each leaseholder simultaneously participates and is willing to buy the entire leasehold land.
