WhatsApp Neighbourhood Watch Group
You can use WhatsApp in your district, neighbourhood or village to identify unsafe situations. Through a WhatsApp group, you can share suspicious situations with your neighbours. The police and the local authority are cooperating with this. In Leeuwarden, several neighbourhoods have WhatsApp groups and have put up neighbourhood watch WhatsApp signs.
Where can you find WhatsApp groups
Through the WhatsApp Neighbourhood Watch (opens in new tab) website, you can check whether your neighbourhood already has a WhatsApp group. If it does not, you may be able to organise this yourself. WhatsApp neighbourhood watch signs
In certain neighbourhoods, WhatsApp neighbourhood watch signs have been put up in public areas. Do you want this too? You will have to meet the following requirements:
- The request is submitted for the entire neighbourhood.
- A map of the neighbourhood showing the signs is included in the request.
- The signs at the district’s approach roads have been registered.
- The WhatsApp neighbourhood prevention signs are self-paid.

Are you unwilling or unable to apply online
Download and complete the WhatsApp neighbourhood watch signs application (opens in new tab) form. Send the form, including the annexes, to the City of Leeuwarden. You can also hand it in at the Town Hall.
Ordering and placing the WhatsApp signs
If you meet the requirements, the local authority will reach out to you. The local authority will then give you a quotation for the signs you have ordered. You will receive this quotation by email. If you agree with the quotation, the signs will be placed. You will receive an invoice for the signs, which you must pay yourself.
