Voting as an EU resident
Letters have been sent to EU residents living in the City of Leeuwarden. This letter is for residents of the municipality of Leeuwarden who are not Dutch and have the nationality of another member state of the European Union (EU).
Why was this letter sent?
As an EU resident, you can decide for yourself in which EU country you vote in the European Parliament elections. This could be in the Netherlands or in the EU country of which you have nationality. If you want to vote in the municipality in which you live, you must register with the municipality.
Didn't receive a letter?
If you also have Dutch nationality, you will not receive a letter. You will then automatically receive a voting card. A voting card is proof that you are allowed to vote.
Register as a voter in the Netherlands
If you want to vote in the Netherlands, you must register with the municipality before April 23. Do you (also) have Dutch nationality? You do not need to take any action. You will then automatically receive a voting card.
Register verbally
Visit the town hall before April 23. You can download, print and complete the Model Y-32 form. Bring a valid ID.
Register in writing
Complete the Model Y-32 form. The completed and signed form, together with a copy of a valid ID, must be received by the municipality of Leeuwarden by April 23 at the latest.
- Send the form to verkiezingen@leeuwarden.nl.
- Or send the form to Gemeente Leeuwarden, afdeling Burgerzaken/Verkiezingen, Postbus 21000, 8900 JA Leeuwarden.
Register as a voter in another EU country
If you want to vote in the EU country where you come from, you do not need to register with the municipality of Leeuwarden. You can then contact the consulate in the Netherlands of the country you come from.
