Nomination of political parties
Monday 1 February 2027 is the day when candidates are nominated. Parties that wish to participate in the Provincial Council elections must submit the necessary forms at the Town Hall on this day between 9 am and 5 pm.
They must make an appointment to do so. Contact the City of Leeuwarden about this.
What documents must you submit?
The forms that you must submit on 1 February 2027 are required by law.
You can print all necessary forms using the OSV software. From 14 December 2026, you will be able to download this software for free from the Electoral Council (opens in new tab) website.
For parties that wish to participate in the elections, a manual, a submission overview and a USB stick will be available from mid-December.

Deposit
Parties without a seat on the Friesland Provincial Council must pay a deposit of €1,125 to participate in the election.
The deposit must have been transferred to the City of Leeuwarden’s account by no later than 18 January 2027. This is explained in more detail in the manual.
If your party gets at least 75% of the electoral quota in the election, your deposit will be returned to you.
Declarations of support
You can issue a declaration of support from 18 January to 1 February 2027. You can do this during the Town Hall’s opening hours.
You are not permitted to recruit people for a declaration of support in the Town Hall or within 10 metres of the Town Hall’s entrance.
Investigation of lists of candidates
On Tuesday 2 February 2027 at 4 pm, the Central Electoral Committee (CSB) will check the lists of candidates.
If any documents or data are missing, the party will be informed of this immediately.
The party can then supplement or amend the missing documents or data on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 February 2027 between 9 am and 5 pm.
Decision on and numbering of lists
On Friday 5 February 2027 at 5 pm, the Central Electoral Committee (CSB) will decide on the validity of the lists of candidates. After that, the list numbers will be determined.
This will happen during a public session at the City Hall, Hofplein 38, in Leeuwarden.
