Quick to:

What can you do yourself

  • Ensure the drains around your house are clean. This will allow rainwater to effectively drain away.
  • You yourself are responsible for blockages in your own plumbing and water in your crawlspaces.
  • Is your toilet not flushing properly? Or does the water level appear to be rising? And is it still raining outside? Temporarily cover your toilet (on the ground floor). You can do this by placing a towel under the toilet seat and placing a heavy object on top of the closed lid. This will ensure less damage from your toilet flooding.

What we do

  • We check important waterways and the sewer system.
  • We keep an eye on the water level to prevent flooding.
  • We maintain the sewers and rainwater pipes, to ensure the water can effectively drain away.
  • We remove blockages in sewers and drains in public spaces.

Be careful of hazardous traffic situations

Excessive water on a road can be dangerous. Do not go out onto the road unless necessary.

What to do in the event of water damage

  • If you are in immediate danger, call 112. For example, if you are unable to bring yourself, someone else or an animal to safety.
  • If the situation is not urgent, but you do require the fire brigade’s services, call 0900-0904. For example, if there is a risk of fire or short circuiting, or if a manhole cover has been dislodged or is missing.
  • If there is no hazard, but there the flooding has caused damage:
    • For example, if your home or business premises keep flooding because the sewer system or a drain in a public space is blocked, contact us.
    • For example, if your home or business premises have been damaged because your plumbing or a drain on your land is blocked, solve the problem yourself or contact a specialist. Have you incurred costs? Contact your insurer.
