New housing estate Hikkemieden
Hikkemieden is the newest neighbourhood in Wirdum, with space for about 71 houses. The district combines modern living comforts with the nature of Friesland. Hikkemieden is located on the outskirts of Wirdum, with the tranquillity of the countryside yet close to village amenities.
Living in Hikkemieden
In Hikkemieden, the focus is on living in the outdoors. You will live in peace and quiet here, with a view of the meadows and bodies of water, while still being close to the amenities of the village. The first houses have already been built, and the district continues to grow. We will dig a waterway in the autumn of 2026, creating a peninsula. All open market plots are already under option. The 8 plots for semi-detached houses are expected to go up for sale in the second quarter of 2027.

- Sale of open market plots on Het Eiland:
We will start making the area ready for construction this autumn: we will build mains services and the road. All 7 open market plots are under option. - Construction work in the public space:
We will dig the waterways around the island in the autumn of 2026. This will take until the spring of 2027. - Semi-detached houses on Het Eiland:
The local authority is currently looking for a developer that will design, construct and sell the semi-detached houses. These houses are expected to go up for sale in the second quarter of 2027. - Open market plots on It Blauleech:
The 5 open market plots on It Blauleech have been sold. Construction of these houses is expected to start in late 2026. - Semi-detached houses on It Blauleech:
There are 4 plots for semi-detached houses on It Blauleech. Plots 3 and 4 have been sold; plots 1 and 2 are under option. - Social housing:
In early February 2026, WoonFriesland started construction of 12 social housing units. - Affordable owner-occupied homes (starter homes):
All houses have been sold. Construction will start in 2026.
