Living in Hikkemieden

In Hikkemieden, the focus is on living in the outdoors. You will live in peace and quiet here, with a view of the meadows and bodies of water, while still being close to the amenities of the village. The first phase of the district has already been completed. Phase 2 will further expand Hikkemieden with new houses that fit in well with the existing neighbourhood and the character of Wirdum.

Aesthetics regulations

The aesthetics regulations determine what houses should look like, what materials and colours can be used and how you can erect fences or other yard fences. The aim is an attractive neighbourhood that is cohesive and offers room for different styles.

Planning

  • Free plots
The 5 free plots from phase 2 have already been sold. Construction of these houses is expected to start in 2026.
  • Semi-detached houses
The 4 plots for semi-detached houses were not sold separately. The local authority is currently looking for a developer that will design, construct and sell the houses.
  • Social housing
In the fourth quarter of 2025, WoonFriesland will start construction of 12 public-sector rented units.
  • Affordable owner-occupied homes
In addition to free plots and social housing, there will also be owner-occupied homes. More information on this will follow in November 2025.
  • Next phase: the island
In the next phase, the island in Hikkemieden will be prepared for construction work. Roads will be constructed and ditches will be dug. There will be 7 free plots on the island. Their sale will likely commence in January 2026.

A map of the district provides an accurate overview of the plots and planning.
