Grant for a refrigerator, freezer, washing machine or dryer
Do you have a low income and do you live in a poorly insulated home? Then you probably pay a lot for energy, such as gas and electricity. You may be entitled to a discount on an energy-efficient refrigerator, freezer, washing machine or dryer. Efficient appliances help lower the energy bill. We call this discount the white goods grant.
Conditions
- You have applied for and received an energy allowance from the City of Leeuwarden. The allowance may also come from another local authority or from the Education Executive Agency (DUO).
- Have you applied for the energy allowance but not received it? If so, you are not eligible.
- If you did not or could not apply for the energy allowance, the following applies:
- Is your income less than 150% of the social minimum? If so, you may also be eligible. For example, if you recently started receiving benefits.
- The limits of 150% of the social minimum as from 1 January 2026 are:
- Single annual income: a gross annual income of less than €29,606 (€2,468 gross per month).
- Married/cohabiting annual income: a gross annual income of less than €42,300 (€3,442 gross per month).
- You show your income to the energy coach when they come by for the energy coach interview.
- You live in a property with a low energy label: B, C, D, E, F or G. You can look up which label your house has on the EP-Online website.
- If no energy label is known, what matters is how old the property is. The house must have been built before 2002.
- The old appliance is 10 years old or more. Or it has energy label B, C or D according to the old energy labelling system. You hand in your old appliance.
- You can choose a table model refrigerator, table model freezer, higher refrigerator or fridge-freezer combination, washing machine or heat pump dryer.
- You can make use of this grant once per address. Have you already received a household appliance with a discount? Then you will not receive another appliance.
How does it work?
- The grant is a voucher worth €730. You can use this voucher to replace your old refrigerator, freezer, washing machine or dryer.
- If you apply for the grant, an Energy Coach will visit you to see if you meet the conditions. If you do, you will receive the voucher from the Energy Coach.
- With the voucher, you can go to the store to find an energy-efficient under-the-counter refrigerator, under-the-counter freezer, larger refrigerator or combined fridge/freezer, washing machine or heat pump tumble dryer for a maximum of €730.
- It may only be an energy-efficient appliance with a minimum energy label D. For a higher refrigerator, the energy label may also be E. You save the most energy with a refrigerator with an A label.
- Do you want a more expensive device? In that case, you will need to pay the remaining amount yourself.
- Hand in the voucher and arrange delivery at the shop.
- The delivery service delivers the new device and immediately takes the old device away. The delivery costs of €20 are free for you.
- A number of devices have been paid for by the European Union – Interreg. That is why these devices have an EU sticker.
- A total of €2,342,500 is available for this grant. Grants will be made as long as there is budget available.

- Make an appointment with the Energy Coach for a consultation. This can be done in 3 ways:
- Using the online application form at Energieloket Leeuwarden.
- Contact the City of Leeuwarden.
- Send your application and contact details to energiecoach@leeuwarden.nl.
- The Energy Coach will visit your home and, together with you, check whether you meet the conditions. If you do, the Energy Coach will hand you a voucher.
