Making a declaration of support
The Provincial Council and Water Board elections will be held on 17 March 2027.
A declaration of support allows you to demonstrate your support of a political party.
If a political party is not yet represented on the Provincial Council or the general management of the Water Board, or if the party is participating with a blank list, it needs to submit at least 30 declarations of support from voters.
When and where
You can issue a declaration of support from 18 January to 1 February 2027. You can do so at the Civil Affairs Department at the Town Hall.
You can also issue a declaration of support on 3 or 4 February 2027 between 8.30 am and 5 pm, but only if the party does not yet have a sufficient number of valid declarations of support.
Conditions
- Bring a valid ID (opens in new tab).
- You must live in Leeuwarden.
- You are eligible to vote in the Provincial Council election and/or the election for the general management of the Water Board.
How does it work?
- The political party you wish to support will give you a declaration of support.
- You then sign the completed declaration of support in Town Hall. An employee from the Elections Department must be present for this.
- At the elections counter, an employee will check whether you live in Leeuwarden and are eligible to vote.
- You can only issue 1 declaration of support (1 for the Provincial Council and 1 for the Water Board), and you cannot revoke it later.
- The employee will stamp the form.
- You can then take the form and hand it in to the political party.
