My income has been attached
Has your income been subjected to an attachment? You need to have enough money left over to live on. This is known as the ‘threshold level’. Go to the video ‘threshold level’ (opens in new tab) for more explanation.
When will your income be attached
If you don’t pay your bills on time, your income may be attached.
My income has been attached, no what?
You will receive a letter, which we call the model notification, in which your calculated threshold level is stated. Check this carefully. If incorrect information has been used in the calculation or the situation has changed, please contact your attachment creditor immediately.
What does this mean to you?
Your employer or benefits agency must withhold money and pay it to the attachment creditor. In this situation you are always entitled to have a minimum amount left over to do your shopping and pay the fixed costs, this is the protected part of your income that you can keep.
What income is the bailiff or creditor not allowed to attach
The attaching party is not allowed to impose an attachment on the threshold level. A bailiff attaches your income and/or possessions.
