A trading hours exemption on public holidays

Shops must remain closed on Easter Monday, Whit Sunday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If there is a special and temporary occasion, the local authority can grant a trading hours exemption. For example for a lustrum celebration or the (re)opening of a shop. The shop may then be open from 6 am to 10 pm.

When are you not granted an exemption?

If the deviating opening hours cause too much nuisance. For example, for the housing and living situation. Or for public order in the vicinity of the shop.
