Residents’ initiatives for a better neighbourhood
Residents’ initiatives are ideas put forward by residents with the aim of improving their neighbourhood or district and making it a more pleasant and healthy place to live. They put these ideas into practice together and pay the costs. The local authority can help with advice.
Are you unwilling or unable to apply online?
Download the form Bewonersinitiatief (PDF, 148.68 KB). Send the form to the City of Leeuwarden. You can also hand it in at the Town Hall.
Examples of residents’ initiative
- Making a community allotment.
- Placing a picnic table.
- Planting more flowers and plants in each street.
- Creating a work of art with all residents.
- Picking up litter with local residents.
- Food festival: connecting cultures through food.
- District market: showing what is happening in the neighbourhood.
Do you want to make your street greener, healthier and more attractive with a facade garden, insect hotel, root zone, planter box or bench? Or would you like to design and maintain the greenery in your neighbourhood? For more information, go to the page Getting started with a facade garden, insect hotel, root zone, public green space, planter or bench.
Conditions
- Draw up a feasible plan. Think of:
- Description of the initiative.
- Ask people in your neighbourhood to support the initiative.
- The location (map) for physical initiatives.
- Planning.
- The initiative must comply with the rules and the policy.
- The initiators are themselves responsible for any costs.
Grant
You can apply for grants for initiatives that improve the quality of life in your district, neighbourhood or village. You can do this via the neighbourhood or village panel, or via the Mienskipsfonds, the Living Together, Healthy Together scheme or a different grant. There are also national and provincial grants such as Jantje Beton.
