Registering the names of political parties
Political parties that are not registered with the local, provincial or national authorities can register a name with the central election office. The registered name enables a party to take part in elections. If a party does not register a name, it can contest the elections without a name. In that case, the party competes with a list number only.
Registering a party name
This can be done until 22 December 2025. We advise you to make an appointment with the Elections Department first.
Registration request
Download the registration form from the Rijksoverheid website. Send the request to the town hall as soon as possible. For this purpose, make an appointment with the Elections Department first. Do not wait until December.
Charges
You pay a deposit of €112.50. This amount must be credited to the account of the City of Leeuwarden by 22 December 2025. You will receive the payment details during your appointment or you can ask Elections Department to provide them.
Registering a contact person
Is your party contesting the elections? Send an email to verkiezingen@leeuwarden.nl. State:
- in the subject line of the e-mail ‘Forward contact GR2026’;
- The name of the party
- the name of the contact person
- the telephone number
- the email address
Candidature
Handing in the list of candidates
If your party participates in the elections on 18 March 2026, you will need to submit a list of candidates. This is due on the day of candidature, 2 February 2026.
Free software
The Electoral Council will make free software available that allows you to create the forms and files for the nomination of candidates during the course of 2025.
