Declaration of support for political parties
The general election will be held on Wednesday, 29 November 2025. If a political party wishes to participate but is not yet represented in the House of Representatives, it will need declarations of support from voters.
What is a declaration of support?
A declaration of support is a form you sign at the local authority to indicate that you support a party’s participation in the elections. You do not need to vote for this party in the elections. You can only submit a single declaration of support. Once you have signed and submitted the declaration of support, you can no longer change it.
What are the conditions?
- Take valid proof of ID with you.
- You live in the City of Leeuwarden.
- You have Dutch nationality.
- You will be 18 or older on 29 October.
- You are not excluded from the right to vote.
When can you drop by?
You can submit a declaration of support from 1 to 15 September 2025. You can do this at the Civil Affairs Department. You can make an appointment or simply walk in during opening hours:
- Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 5 pm;
- Thursday evening from 5 pm to 7.30 pm.
On 17 and 18 September, you can submit a declaration for a party with insufficient declarations. This will be possible between 9 am and 5 pm.
What to take with you?
- the form you received from the party you wish to support. Enter your data, but do not sign the form yet;
- valid proof of identity.
You will sign the form in front of an employee from the Civil Affairs Department. The employee will check the form. The form will then be returned to you. You should submit the form to the party yourself.
