Making a declaration of support
The municipal elections will be held on 18 March 2026. With a declaration of support, you can voice your support for a political party’s participation. If a political part is not yet on Leeuwarden’s city council, it needs to submit at least 30 declarations of support from voters.
When and where
You can make a declaration of support from 19 January to 2 February 2026. You can do so at the Civil Affairs Department at Town Hall.
You can also make a declaration of support on 4 and 5 February 2026 between 8.30 am and 5 pm. You can do so for parties that have not yet submitted enough declarations of support.
Conditions
- Bring a valid ID.
- You must live in Leeuwarden.
- You must have the right to vote in the municipal elections.
How does it work?
- The political party you wish to support will give you a declaration of support.
- You then sign the completed declaration of support in Town Hall. An employee from the Elections Department must be present for this.
- At the elections counter, an employee will check whether you live in Leeuwarden, and whether you have the right to vote in the municipal elections.
- You can only make a single declaration of support, and you cannot revoke it later.
- The employee will stamp the form.
- You can then take the form and hand it in to the political party.
