Nomination of political parties
Monday 2 February 2026 is the day when candidates are nominated. On that day, parties that wish to participate in the municipal elections must submit the necessary forms at Town Hall between 9 am and 5 pm. You will need to make an appointment.
What documents must you submit?
The forms that you must submit are prescribed by law. You can print all necessary forms using the OSV software. This software can be downloaded for free from the Kiesraad website. For parties that wish to participate in the elections, a manual, a submission overview and a USB stick are available. If you do not yet have these, contact the Elections Office as soon as possible.
Deposit
Parties without a seat on the city council are required to pay a deposit of €225 to participate in the municipal elections.
This amount must be transferred to the City of Leeuwarden, account number NL87BNGH0285004867, with the description ‘deposit for nomination + name and address of the political group’.
The deposit must have been transferred to the local authority’s account by no later than Monday 19 January 2026. If at least 75% of the electoral quota is reached in the elections, the deposit will be returned.
Declarations of support
Declarations of support can be made from 19 January to 2 February 2026. This is possible at Town Hall during opening hours. Recruiting supporters is not permitted at Town Hall.
Investigation of lists of candidates
On Tuesday 3 February 2026 at 4 pm, the Central Electoral Committee (CSB) will investigate the lists of candidates. In the event that any omissions (missing documents) are found, this will be shared with the party immediately. These missing documents can be handed in on Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 February 2026 between 9 am and 5 pm.
Decision on and numbering of lists
On Friday 6 February 2026 at 5 pm, the CSB will decide on the validity of the lists of candidates, and the numbering will be decided. This will happen during a public session at City Hall, Hofplein 38, Leeuwarden.
