Fall prevention program Ik Sta Sterk
It is important that you can move safely in and around your home. Are you 65 years or older and do you live in the municipality of Leeuwarden? Then take advantage of the free fall prevention group training.
Why participate in the fall prevention group training?
Stay fit longer, live independently at home and enjoy life with fall prevention group training. By participating in the training:
- You can continue to do daily activities for longer.
- Improve your muscle strength and balance.
- Walk and move with more confidence.
- Get to know new people.
Training courses
The training courses reimbursed by the local authority:
- At Balans there is a group training programme for residents with low or moderate risk of falling. The training has a duration of 3 months. The programme starts with an information session and 3 course meetings. After this, you can train for one hour twice a week for 10 weeks.
- Otago is a 3-month training programme for residents at high risk of falling. The workout consists of balance exercises and a walking schedule. You can trace once or twice a week at the physiotherapist’s. The Otago instructor decides, by mutual agreement, whether to train once or twice a week.
Participation
The local authority finds it important that every resident aged 65 and above can participate in a training programme. For that reason, you can join a training session once free of charge. Participation is for the entire 3-month training period at either In Balans or Otago.
Assessing your risk of falling
Want to know what your risk of falling is? If so, go to the website hoe sterk sta ik. On this government website, you can answer some questions online. You will get the results immediately and it is completely anonymous. You can also ask your physiotherapist what your risk of falling is. Or perhaps you have been to the pharmacy to discuss this. Pharmacies in our local authority area may also ask you to have your risk of falling assessed.
