Quick to:

Paid parking

You pay parking tax (a parking fee) when you park in a paid parking zone. You can pay in various ways:

  • buying a car park ticket at a parking ticket machine;
  • installing a parking app and registering your number plate;
  • applying for a parking permit.

What is a parking fine

You will receive a parking fine if you do not pay the parking tax or do not pay enough. The amount is made up of 2 parts:

  • an hour’s parking fee. This amount depends on the area where you were parked;
  • administration fees. This amount is laid down by law.

You will see a number on the additional assessment. The first 6 numbers indicate the date when the fine was issued.

Received notification

Have you received notification of a parking fine? Wait until you have received the fine in the mail. You can then file an objection. This can be done digitally or by mail.

Parking illegally

If you have parked illegally (in the wrong place or in such a way as to cause danger, for example), you will receive a fine from the Central Judicial Collection Agency (CJIB). Payment and objections must be addressed to the CJIB and not to the local authority.

How do I pay a fine

Pay the parking fine within 30 days of the date on the letter.

This is the date we sent the fine. Not the date of the parking violation.

Transfer the amount to:

  • Bank account number NL10BNGH0285100343.
  • In the name of: City of Leeuwarden.
  • Description: assessment number and subject number.

Are you paying from abroad?

Note the BIC number: BNGHNL2G. Please note that the amount may take longer to reach us.

Have you not paid on time?

In that case, you will be charged debt recovery costs and perhaps also debt collection interest. We calculate this interest from the day after the last day when you should have paid until the day you pay.

Do you disagree with the parking fine

There is no point objecting to a parking fine if:

  • the parking ticket machine wasn’t working, but you also failed to pay in another way;
  • you did not know you needed to pay. Paid parking zones always have signs to indicate this;
  • your parking permit did not apply in the area where you were parked;
  • you were only parked for a short time and did not pay the parking fee for that reason.

Would you nevertheless like to object to your parking fine? More information can be found on the page Objecting to municipal taxes.
