Everyone must be able to work with the City of Leeuwarden. Also online. That is why we keep our online information searchable, easy to use and accessible. Government websites must meet the accessibility requirements WCAG 2.1 at level AA. This is stated in the ‘Temporary decision on online government access’. This page explains the level at which we meet this requirement.
Implementation agenda Local Inclusion Agenda 2024-2026
The City of Leeuwarden is working with the Accessibility Working Group to create an accessible Leeuwarden. The Accessibility Working Group consists of experience experts with physical and sensory disabilities. Together with them, the local authority implements the Local Inclusion Agenda 2024–2026.

Research shows that our website does not yet meet all the requirements of the ‘Temporary Decree on Online Government Access’. We are working to improve the following subjects:

We are working to make all our application forms and documents available in digital format.

Not all videos can be accessed online. In 2023, we are looking into what needs to be done to make these videos accessible online. Staff will also be trained to post new documents in digital form on the website in 2023.

We try to ensure that new forms comply with accessibility requirements.

We aim to improve, replace or discontinue other websites and Apps we are responsible for.
We are also doing other things to improve our accessibility.
- Accessibility requirements are part of our procurement policy. That means they will be included in all public tenders.
- The editors of our website provide texts that can be accessed online.
- Some texts on the website are tested together with experience experts.
- A company specialising in digital accessibility performs regular spot checks on whether our website is still compliant.
- Our staff are also trained how to handle digitally accessible texts.
User tests
This website was launched in October 2022. Users of our website have tested it, including people with a visual or intellectual disability.
The results have been used to improve our website.
