Redevelopment of De Kei in Bilgaard
We are redesigning De Kei in Bilgaard. The street will be made prettier, greener and safer. We will renew the sewers, plant more greenery and rearrange the street.
Why is De Kei being redeveloped?
The sewer system in De Kei is more than 60 years old and needs to be replaced. This presents opportunities to improve the district. We are working to solve flooding problems, make the neighbourhood greener and ensure it is better prepared for heat and heavy rain due to climate change.
Points to consider
In the new plan, we are aiming to achieve:
- Less flooding. We will make space for rainwater, replace asphalt with paving and add more greenery.
- More greenery in the district. Greenery provides cooling, play space for children and meeting places for residents. Residents are given space to arrange part of the outdoor space, for example with a herb garden or picnic table.
- Sustainable and climate-proof. We will reuse tiles from the district. And opt for sustainable solutions.
- Safer traffic. We will make the bend at Brandemeer safer, improve footpaths and provide clear routes. To curb nuisance caused by scooters, we will install gates at alleys.
- More and clear parking space for cars, scooters and share bikes.
- Renewal of outdoor space. Such as street lighting, playground equipment, benches and litter bins.
- Waste regulated differently. We are working with Omrin to organise the collection of waste centrally through underground waste containers.
Preliminary design
In 2022, we made a preliminary design. This gives an initial impression of what the new layout might look like. For more information, go to the document Preliminary design De Kei Bilgaard.
Residents contribute ideas and suggestions
In September 2021, residents were invited to contribute ideas about the new layout of De Kei. We did this through the newsletter distributed door-to-door. Interested parties could register for a working group.
Wishes and points to consider
Together with this group, we talked about wishes and concerns for the district. A preliminary design was based on this. In late 2022, we presented this design to residents during a walk-in evening.
Follow-up
In 2024, we developed the preliminary design into a final plan. In April of 2025, we presented this design to the working group. Based on their responses, we are now making some adjustments to the plan. We are also establishing what the implementation will cost.
