Reuse of household items
A lot is thrown away in the Netherlands, including items that can be put to good use again after an easy repair. Things you no longer need could still be of value to someone else. You can put them up for sale on Marktplaats or Vinted, or take them to a thrift shop. If something is broken, you can have it repaired. Giving items a second life reduces the need for raw materials, which is better for the environment.
Thrift shops
In the City of Leeuwarden you can take items you no longer need to the Estafette/Recycleboulevard. It is also possible to have them collected by the Estafette, after making an appointment with Omrin.
You will find a list of all thrift shops in Friesland via the national website of the Kringloopwinkels.
Donating clothing and textiles
You can place clothes, shoes or other textiles in the City of Leeuwarden in the above-ground textile containers. You can also take the textiles to the Estafette/Recycleboulevard or have them collected by the Estafette. You will need to make an appointment for this. You will find more information at the website of Omrin.
Repair Café
There are several Repair Cafés in the City of Leeuwarden. Together with enthusiastic volunteers, you can have clothes, electrical appliances, toys and other items repaired free of charge (not including having new parts ordered). Opening hours can be found on the website of this Repair Café.
New for Old
Have you bought a new product? If so, you can hand in the old one. Most companies take back old appliances or products. In some cases (e.g. electrical appliances and car tyres), they are obliged to do so.
Dismantling
If the product is composed of several parts made of different materials, you can also disassemble the product yourself. You can reuse parts or dispose of them separately at the Milieustraat (recycling centre).
