Quick to:

The project

In Leeuwarden, Wirdumerdijk is used as a testing location for Streets2030. Together with the different partners of the project, we will look at how the street can be made more resistant to large amounts of rain and extreme heat. It is important to ensure enough space for cyclists and pedestrians. The local authority receives a grant from the Interreg North West Europe programme for this project.

Approach

  • Developing a ‘Streets2030 Compass’. This compass will help local authorities to design cycling paths and pavements that are more resistant to heavy rain and extreme heat.
  • Testing the Streets2030 Compass in 6 cities in Northwestern Europe.
  • Providing training to other cities, on how to make and finance safe and strong walking and cycling paths.
