Investigation

The first step was a survey. The local authority wanted to know how many people would like a caravan site. Almost 90% of residents and interested parties from the 4 caravan sites in Leeuwarden participated in the survey.

Main findings of the survey

  • There are many people who want a caravan site: 44 adults and 14 children want one between now and 8 years.
  • Half of these people want a place as soon as possible.
  • Most people would like to live in a place that already exists. If that is not possible, a new place is also acceptable.
  • Many people like to live with family members.
  • Most residents who have a place now want to stay there.
  • Many people want more information about how the places will be allocated, how to register and how maintenance will be arranged.
  • Many residents feel that contact with the local authority could be better.

Meetings

Meetings with caravan residents and other interested parties were held on 30 June, 1 July and 7 July. We discussed the findings of the survey. We also asked questions to find out more about what people want. Together, we agreed on the next steps.

Planning

  • September – October 2025:
After the summer, we will write up the new agreements. We will do this together with a number of residents and interested parties from each site.
  • November 2025:
Anyone will have an opportunity to comment on the new arrangements. After that, we can still adjust the arrangements.
  • December 2025 – January 2026:
We present the new rules to the city council. The council also decides whether there will be funding available for new places and locations.
  • February 2026:
We will start implementing the new arrangements.
